Editor's review: Eaton Residences in Happy Valley

Editor's review

Eaton Residences has three Hong Kong locations; Village Road and Blue Pool Road in Happy Valley, and another location on Wan Chai Gap Road. All three properties are rental serviced apartments, catering to business travellers, families and visitors alike. After undergoing a major renovation in 2015 (both inside and out), the Village Road, Happy Valley building is a quiet reprieve from the busyness and noise of the city.

After spending four months closed to undergo renovations the building reopened with a fresh face and new vibe. Now, it houses 50 rooms, all offering either a one-bedroom or studio option. Rooms are available on a monthly rental basis, and guests are treated to hotel-quality service thanks to the management of luxury hotel and hospitality group, Langham Hotels International. All staff on site have been hired through the hotel group to provide top-quality service, akin to a hotel.

When I arrive, I’m greeted in the lobby by some of the most friendly staff I’ve ever encountered. I’m checked in within a few minutes, whisked off to my room and introduced to where I’ll be staying for the night. I’m handed my room key, which is a proper door key – not an electronic card. A small but significant detail that makes the experience feel less like a temporary apartment, and more like a home.

Opening the curtains, I see that my room backs onto a quiet backstreet and some red brick townhouses. There is little to no vehicle traffic or road noise, and it’s a refreshing change from my own apartment on the Island. The room itself feels warm, with a soft green and grey colour palette throughout. Large windows brighten up the space and create a luxurious atmosphere. At 323 square feet, it’s a spacious size, with plenty of room to add personal touches and additions - or even an extra bed if required by guests. The deluxe one bedroom is the biggest room available, at a large 570 square feet.

Tasteful and eye-catching artwork pieces hang in the rooms, as well as the lobby and in the corridors. It’s classy and modern inside, with the service quality you’d expect from a five-star hotel. An outdoor terrace is available for those wanting to relax outside or smoke. Laundry facilities are accessible on site, as too is a parking option. Those wishing to use a gym facility however, will have to travel to the company’s other Happy Valley location; Blue Pool Road nearby. Here guests can enjoy use of the gym facilities as well as an outdoor swimming pool.

The location of the property is a big draw. It’s a quiet, residential area that has a different pace to the bustle just a few kilometres away. There are convenience stores and supermarkets all within easy walking distance. And neighbouring facilities include the Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital and the Happy Valley Racecourse.

Eaton Residences, Village Road is utilised by patients and visitors to the hospital for post- or pre-care, and occasionally by families visiting relatives for extended periods of time within the area. It makes a great spot for a landing pad for those seeking somewhere quiet but centrally located in the city.
