Squarefoot Editor  2024-01-26  #Movie

Today on Squarefoot, we explore a charming village house in Sai Kung, infused with Bali-style interior design, and lovingly furnished with handcrafted pieces.

Secluded behind black iron gates is a quaint garden, an ideal setting for barbecues. Built-in planters create a narrow alcove for bamboo shoots, adding a vibrant touch of green.

Full-height glass doors open into a cosy living room, complete with a large chaise sofa, a tufted ottoman, and an area rug, creating an inviting area to relax. Next to it is a compact, handmade, built-in work desk with wooden shelves.

The dining space boasts a robust wood table surrounded by a casual mix of seating. The natural materials of the chairs add textural interest, while low-hanging pendant lights cast an intimate glow, perfect for dinner gatherings. Tall windows flood the area with natural light, and the open floor plan enhances a sense of flow.

The adjoining open kitchen features a central island, crowned by a handmade light fixture, which lends a rustic charm to the space. A sideboard, crafted from recycled teak, sits by the kitchen, while the honeycomb backsplash and soft under-cabinet lighting contribute to the kitchen’s fun and casual atmosphere. A winding staircase with a chic under-stair display cabinet leads to the upper floor’s rest areas.

The first-floor bathroom showcases a large mirror, marble-top vanity, and a shower bath. A towel rack and wooden storage bench complement the cool grunge set against the polished concrete floor and matching light blue tiles on the bathtub and accent wall. Opposite the bathroom is a small guest bedroom, furnished with a queen-sized bed, a small chest of drawers, and a window allowing in natural light.

The second bedroom doubles as an office space, offering a sofa bed. It's adorned with a refreshing green accent wall and hanging planters, oozing serenity.

The master bedroom is a large cosy sanctuary, featuring a full-height wardrobe with sliding doors, a king-sized bed, and Balinese decor, from the rattan pendant light to the wood bedside tables, lampshades, and a sizeable chest of drawers. A handcrafted wooden mirror cleverly enhances the room's spaciousness. Full-height windows offer views of the sea and mountains. Completing the master suite is an ensuite bathroom with a sink, a handcrafted wood mirror, a toilet, and a glass-enclosed shower, set against ceramic blue wall tiles.

Asking price: HK$10.5 million (~US$82,063).
