Shatin includes Shatin New Town, Ma On Shan and several country parks. Shatin is a well developed residential area being made up of public housing estates, large scale developments with a few luxury developments. The residential area around Tai Po and Ma On Shan have been known to be more serene than the busier cores of Shatin. The Sha Tin River runs through the area and for many, it’s a nice walkway for a relaxing stroll.

Shatin was originally developed to ease the housing pressure in the densely populated Kowloon. The developments have been quite successful and now Shatin has become a popular area to live in, a community on it’s own with major transportation infrastructure in the area. There are numerous shopping centers, markets, restaurants and shops of all kinds that is available for the population of Shatin and the area.

Transportation in Shatin & Tai Po

The KCR East Rail feeds into the Sha Tin station for quick and easy access from Tsim Sha Tsui. Many buses and minibuses also make Sha Tin its destination from all parts of Hong Kong. The area of Shatin and Tai Po has the largest number of KCR East Rail stations, including Tai Wai, Shatin, Fo Tan, Racecourse and University. KCR Ma On Shan Rail also runs through Tai Wai, Che Kung Temple, Shatin Wai, City One, Shek Mun, Tai Shui Hang, Heng On, Ma On Shan and Wu Kai Sha. Many highways and a couple of tunnels lead literally to all regions of Hong Kong.
