Summer Holiday Is Over But That Doesn't Mean The Fun Ends With The Rain

As the kids try to settle into the back-to-school routine, there are some close-to-home playgrounds that they can visit after school or on weekends to help burn off that excess energy.

With its proximity to Central, SoHo and Lan Kwai Fong, the Mid-Levels has always been the neighbourhood of choice for young professionals and couples moving to Hong Kong. However, it’s often overlooked as a great neighbourhood for families, boasting some of the city’s top playgrounds and open spaces. While many properties have their own indoor playground facilities, nothing quite beats letting the little ones loose in the great outdoors. From Mid-Levels to Pokfulam, here’re my top five city playgrounds for kids:

Caine Road Playground, Mid-Levels West

The go-to playground in the neighbourhood, this is where your kids can find some of the best equipment to swing, slide, crawl and climb on to their heart's content. It's also a great place to meet new parents, set up play dates and relax in the shaded areas.

Caine Lane Playground, Mid-Levels West

Just across from Caine Road Playground is another fun spot with a large outdoor play area. Surrounded by shade-giving trees and next to the historic Medical Sciences Museum, this lesser known playground offers a surprisingly peaceful escape in the heart of the city.

King George V Memorial Park, Sai Ying Pun

Although part of this park is now the site of the upcoming MTR extension, there's still plenty of space to run on the huge seven-a-side hard court football pitch or burn off excess energy on the nautical-inspired playground. Like all good parks, there's a public washroom and plenty of shaded areas.

Blake Garden, Po Hing Fong

If your kids are looking to kick a ball around or shoot some hoops, look no further than the multi-use outdoor pitches at Po Hing Fong. It's the perfect place to play some football, basketball, or badminton in a neighbourhood lined with tong laus.

Pokfulam Road Playground, Pokfulam

In the midst of this lush oasis is a great playground for the little ones with a hard court football pitch just beside it. There are plenty of covered areas, offering a cool respite from the summer sun, a public washroom and easy accessibility with a bus stop and street parking right outside.

Knowing that there are so many amazing playgrounds for your family to explore, it’s time to get your kids out and have a ball in these fun places. It’s a lot more interesting than sitting long at home swiping the iPad screen.
