Anglepoise: Type 75

Size matters. Just in time to usher in the film version of BFG, the desk lamp used by its creator Roald Dahl to write his beloved children’s tales has been triple sized. Quintessentially British company Anglepoise launched its extended indoor and outdoor range of mega scale lamps at Frankfurt’s Light+Building earlier this year to great fanfare. Type 75 Giant Floor Lamp is handcrafted and made entirely in Britain, and is exactly three times the size of Sir Kenneth Grange’s original Type 75 desk lamp. It features a rotating shade, switch bulb that allows for multiple light levels, and comes in three satin powder finishes as well as brushed aluminium.

Lambert et Fils: Dot

Montreal based lighting studio Lambert et Fils was founded by Samuel Lambert in 2010 to specialise in lamps with a mid century modern, industrial or minimal aesthetic. Its Dot Luna Floor Lamp is exemplary of the designer’s oeuvre, and references the classic street lamps of yesteryear with its slender unfinished brass column and single globe lamp. Shown here lighting Ristorante Piu in Zurich, the lamp is grounded with a white marble base, stands 1448 mm high, and comes with a 45 mm globe that requires a 25 watt halogen bulb.

Alexander Lamont: Lithe

Bangkok based Alexander Lamont grew up in Nairobi, Bangalore and England, often accompanying his father on scouting trips to southeast Asia for the family’s import business. He established his eponymous company Alexander Lamont to concentrate on bespoke and one of a kind furniture, lighting and decorative accessories that are both functional and sculptural. Lithe Uplight stands at 1755 mm and has a svelte, graceful quality with gentle curves and a mottled bronze finish. The interior of the cup is finished with gold leaf, bathing interior surroundings with an ethereal glow.

Moooi: Emperor

Shanghai based Lyndon Neri and Rossana Hu are architects who also design a number of lifestyle products under their own label and for established international brands. For Moooi, Neri & Hu created Emperor, a collection of pendant, table and floor lamps that reference the Chinese folk tale of the emperor who was gifted a beautiful nightingale, and kept her in a majestic cage to showcase her songs. The handcrafted bamboo woven shade in this industrially produced lamp is both rustic and refined, alluding to the elegance of the sophisticated mythical creature that inspired it.
