Tseung Kwan O Street Life: From Trash to Treasure

From its plentiful educational opportunities, vibrant green surroundings to its endless stream of new residential properties, what was once known as stinky “Junk Bay” has turned into one of the most desirable areas to put down roots for locals and expats.

Today, Tseung Kwan O enjoys close proximity to a diverse range of free-access recreational facilities and an exciting range of entertainment, including a movie theatre, a slew of dining outlets and shopping malls, including PopCorn and Park Centre.

New homes are also available in abundance at Tseung Kwan O, including the Savannah, Ocean Wings, The Wings, CAPRI and Corinthia By The Sea, to name but a few.

Catch a glimpse of the studio glamour at TVB City; take a stroll at the Waterfront Park and feel the warm breeze; spend a Sunday afternoon at the Hong Kong Velodrome Park or enjoy a breather … regardless of your leisure time preference, there is always more to do at Tseung Kwan O.

12:30 pm | PopCorn
Tseung Kwan O MTR station’s Exit C will get you to PopCorn, a 200,000 square foot shopping mall with about 150 retailers, a wide selection of dining outlets as well as a movie theatre, and a paradise for food enthusiasts, shoppers and fashionistas.

13:40 pm | BEANS the Backyard
People in Hong Kong are ever-more demanding on their coffees as prices increase. Regardless of your coffee preference, you don’t want to miss BEANS the Backyard and its colourful arty coffees with intriguing 3D foam art. Though coffee colouring is more about the look than the taste, a good cup of coffee should also be easy on the eye.

A bliss for pet owners, Wan Po Road Pet Garden is believed to be the largest pet garden in town where your beloved pets can enjoy some off-leash times and run wild. The 1.2-hectare park has more than 30 fur-friendly parks and gardens scattered with dog-friendly restaurants.

Adjacent to the Pet Garden, the Tseung Kwan O Waterfront Park occupies an area of 1.6 hectares stretching from the Tseung Kwan O town centre to Tiu Keng Leng. Its panoramic views of Hong Kong Island make it an ideal place to spend a romantic sunset with your loved one.

19:00 pm | Saizeriya Italian Restaurant
Rounding off my trip is this budget-friendly pizza joint. The interior is modest, but the food it serves is satisfying. Originating from Japan, this international Italian eatery stands out with its diverse menu and friendly pricing. The most expensive seafood pizza here costs only HK$36, probably the most “guilt-free” pizza you can get.
