How do Crossbeams Affect Your Life?

There are two major schools in Chinese Feng Shui: ‘Compass’ and ‘Forms’. The former relies on calculations to determine your luck, and the latter utilizes geographical elements, the shape and form of a building and home decorations to determine a home’s Feng Shui.

Crossbeams are common in Hong Kong architecture. An overhead means having a crossbeam above where you sit or sleep. If the ceiling height is sufficient, you can remedy the situation through the design of the ceiling.

A good design can help you fix the situation; however, if not done properly, you might end up creating more problems, for example, light troughs will work like crossbeams if positioned directly overhead.

We should avoid having our bed, dining table, study desk, office desk and shrine under a crossbeam. If this is unavoidable, you can hang a chain of six Chinese brass coins at each end of the crossbeam. Crossbeams are categorized as earth hazards, whereas brass coins, round objects and the number ‘six’ are gold elements, so following the principle that earth produces gold, we can eliminate the hazard.

We can determine, by the position of the crossbeam, which aspect of life will be affected.

  1. Bed – affect the sleeper’s health
  2. A Couple’s Bed –affect the couple’s relationship
  3. Dining Table – create disharmony in family life
  4.  Study Desk – children will have difficulty concentrating when studying
  5.  Office Desk – affect work performance
  6. Altar– negatively affect your family fortune
