Superfood Arrives Hong Kong

World of Chia has developed a range of all-natural, vegan and gluten-free fruit spreads, which feature an ancient Aztec wonder food called chia. A rich source of omega-3, dietary fibre, proteins, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals, these health-benefiting seeds derived from the desert plant Salvia hispanica are one of the four ingredients that go into the making of these tasty spreads. The others include superfruits – specifically berries, lemon juice, and agave syrup as a sweetener instead of sugar cane. To keep the product as wholesome as possible, the company refrains from using pectin, acids, artificial colours, flavourings, preservatives and additives. Currently available at GREAT is the Chia Blueberry Fruit Spread.

In recent years, acai berries went from being a rare Brazilian fruit from the Amazon rainforest to the most sought-after fruit worldwide because of the powerful antioxidants it contains, even ranking above other superfruits such as pomegranate, blueberries and blackberries. Since acai berries oxidise within 24 hours after being picked, the berries have to be freeze-dried – a high-tech process that dehydrates the fruit at a low temperature – to retain the berries’ maximum nutrients, resulting in a powder form. The store is now carrying Superfood Lab’s Organic Acai Berry Powder, with no fillers or sweeteners added. Known to be energy-enhancing, this supplement can be used in a variety of ways, such as mixed with yoghurt, sprinkled on cereals, blended in protein shakes or fruit smoothies.

San Francisco's Oldest Craft Beer

A San Francisco legacy since 1896, Anchor Brewing Company is America’s original craft brewery. Its beers are handmade from an all-malt mash and still small-batch produced in a classical copper brewhouse through a process combining traditional and natural brewing with craft and current methods. The company started with its flagship beer, Anchor Steam, and today produces more than ten varieties, including Anchor Porter, California Lager and Liberty Ale – currently featured at GREAT.
