Phoenix Property Investors looked to the timeless design style of Robert A.M. Stern for its luxury residence, The Morgan.
An address on Conduit Road has long been a definitive statement. Its tranquil location in Central Mid-Levels is an easy walk or short drive from the bustle of Central. Hong Kong-based Phoenix Property Investors understands that such a prestigious address requires the right sort of architecture.
For its latest offering, the 28-storey residence, dubbed The Morgan, it looked to New York City-based Robert A.M. Stern Architects to work its magic.
Stern has been the dean of Yale University’s School of Architecture since 1989 and is known for including vernacular details in his work on private homes and luxury condominiums.
“We design our buildings to relate to the places in which we build – the specific site, the general context and the tradition of the city and the region,” Stern says.
“Conduit Road is a very nice, very prosperous residential street. The site offers views to the water, but its best feature is Victoria Peak rising up behind it like a green wall. The southern side of the building offers the most dramatic views, and we’ve taken that into consideration in locating the living rooms and dining rooms, master bedrooms and terraces in the plans of the residences.”
Stern was responsible for the entire project, including the clubhouse with an outdoor swimming pool and the landscape architecture.
With a total of 111 units, The Morgan offers 61 three to four-bedroom mountain view residences ranging from 1,235 to 1,381 square feet, 36 two-bedroom duplexes from 936 to 1,082 square feet, six suites at 483 square feet and eight special units from 973 to 3,962 square feet.
To reinforce the site’s lush vegetation, Stern designed a façade of greenery that surrounds the neoclassical style entrance.
The clubhouse is situated to the rear of the building against The Peak, and offers an assortment of diversions, including a 25-metre outdoor swimming pool and a private dining room with a grand piano.
“You go to your window, you look across to Victoria Peak, and below you see the swimming pool and the garden,” Stern says.
“It’s like a country club in the middle of the city. What could be better?”
