KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, March 29, 2016 /PRNewswire/ — Ecobuild Southeast Asia 2016 will take place from 12-14 April at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre and will be held alongside International Construction Week (ICW) 2016, the largest annual construction event in the region hosted by the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) Malaysia and organised by UBM Malaysia. Ecobuild Southeast Asia is part of the established Ecobuild portfolio with its flagship event established for over a decade in London. The trade show is a comprehensive showcase of sustainable construction products and energy solutions. In 2015, Ecobuild Southeast Asia showcased over 100 companies from various countries and regions, including the United Kingdom, mainland China, the Middle East, Taiwan, Japan, Australia, Singapore and Malaysia and attracted over 10,000 visitors from across the world. Among participants were building contractors, government representatives, engineers, consultants and developers.
Ecobuild SEA & ICW 2016 bring together corporations and industry experts to share the cutting-edge technologies developed for the construction of buildings and infrastructure in a sustainable manner. During the event CIDB will showcase the advantages of Industrialised Building System (IBS) technology to promote wide adoption, and a careers fair jointly organised with The Institution of Engineers Malaysia to draw more young talent to the construction industry. The careers fair will also feature participation from Pertubuhan Arkitek Malaysia and the Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia
“The theme — “Driving Productivity in Construction” — is very much in line with the 11th Malaysia Plan which begins this year in the country’s final stretch towards realising Vision 2020, where the focus is on productivity to drive economic growth,” said CIDB Malaysia Chief Executive Ir Ahmad ‘Asri Abdul Hamid. “In this aspect, the construction sector has an important role to play. It is expected to grow at an average of 10.3% annually in the next five years driven by continued civil engineering works, residential housing demand as well as affordable housing for low-income groups.”
“We are also building on the momentum of the Construction Industry Transformation Programme that was launched by the Prime Minister at ICW last year, as a national agenda to transform and modernise the construction industry. CIDB will use this opportunity to continue to highlight the benefits IBS especially in helping to achieve housing targets to meet the demand.”
CIDB will also be spearheading the Industrialised Building System Housing Expo (IHE) held alongside the two main events to promote IBS products and technology for housing construction and as a platform to share experience and to business match suppliers and developers.
Efforts to cultivate the next generation of builders are backed by several competitions held at ICW 2016: Arena of Youth — MyCity 2050 (Secondary School level competition), Rebuild It Green (University Level competition), Open Ideas Competition, International Highest Early Strength Self-Consolidating Concrete Cube Competition and IEM Mechanical Design Competition.
