It’s hard not to notice the mooncake advertisements popping up around the city. It’s that time of the year – The Moon Festival.
The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Festival, is held on the 15th day of the eighth month on the Chinese Almanac calendar. Similar to Thanksgiving in Western culture, it was a time to celebrate and be thankful for bountiful harvests. With much fewer people working on farms in the 21st Century, the age-old tradition has evolved into a fun family experience. Today, it is an occasion for outdoor reunions among families, relatives and friends to gather and to enjoy mooncake and gaze the moon. It is a symbol of harmony and unity.
Ideally we need more than just the Moon Festival to restore peace and harmony at home. As family conflict often starts at home, it’s above all to create a harmonious living space. Here are some Feng Shui tips on how to improve the luck of your living space.
Avoid Opposing Doorways
Having two bedroom doors face towards each other will create tension in a family. The relationship between parents and children may affect the most. If relocating the doorway is not an option, try to separate two rooms with drapes.
Position Your Bed Carefully
A bed under a ceiling beam or facing the doorway will attract bad luck, particularly to the relationship of married couples. The best solution is to move the bed away from these undesirable settings.
Adopt A Warm Color Tone
It has been scientifically proven that colors affect our moods and emotions. When it comes to creating a harmonious living space, the preference is for warm colors (e.g. orange and yellow) over cool colors (e.g. blue and black). In addition, it’s better to avoid using too many decorating mirrors as it often creates a sense of isolation.
Reduce Negative Energy Of “San Bic Star”
The energy of “San Bic Star” complicates matters with relation to arguments. This year, the star is situated in the East. If the main entrance is at the East, a good way to balance out the negative energy is to place a red floor mat or decoration at the entrance. For better balance of energy, have a red light illuminate in this direction.
As the old Chinese saying goes, if the family lives in harmony, all affairs will prosper. Other than applying to the home settings mentioned above, it’s even more important to reach out to your loved ones on the Moon Festival. A warm caring message can mean a lot to your loved ones. And on that note, we wish you a happy Mid-Autumn Festival!
