Days after releasing its new ACTV and RCVR performance lines, Puma has announced a new collection of “sustainable” products that are biodegradable and recyclable.

Puma says the InCycle collection, which will launch in March, will be the brand’s first line of footwear, apparel, and accessories to earn the Cradle to Cradle Certified Basic certification, a product standard for sustainability.

The products are all made from organic fibers without toxic chemicals and follow international standards for composting, says the company.


Included in the line is Puma’s Basket Tee, a fully compostable T-shirt constructed with minimal materials. The upper of the Puma Basket sneaker is a mix of organic cotton and linen, while the sole is made from a biodegradable plastic called APINATbio.

The line also features a backpack and track jacket, made from used PET bottles, which are both fully recyclable when you’re ready to part with them. The backpack, for example, is made of polypropylene that can be broken down to the original substance and used again to make new backpacks.

Puma has also launched the “Bring Me Back” program at its stores and outlets, installing recycling bins where customers can return used shoes, clothing and gear by any brand.

As part of Adidas’s latest venture to show greater environmental awareness in the making of its garments, Adidas by Stella McCartney launched a T-shirt that uses a technology the brand says uses no water during the dye process. Nike is also promoting its Dri-Fit fabric range, which uses recycled plastic drink bottles to create polyester microfiber performance sport clothing intended to divert perspiration while being kind to the environment.
