Alessi: Alessi Goes Digital
In 2013, Italian designer Guilio Iacchetti sent an email to eight fellow designers with an idea: to create a pen using a stereo lithography 3D printer. Three years later, the results were showcased by Alessi in Milan. Marco Ferreri designed one with micro ribbed texture for a sure grip; Alessandro Gnocchi’s version features a long lid that can easily slide into a shirt pocket; Iacchetti created a lidless pen that rotates the tip of the refill into the body; Chiara Moreschi’s feature a tapered tip; Mario Scairato includes a notched lid; and Alessandro Stabile was inspired by the double helix for his pen.

Copenhagen-based Muuto unveiled CONTROL at this year’s annual Milan furniture fair. Designed by Stockholm-based studio TAF Architects, the minimal lamp was inspired by classic hi-fi equipment and industrial control panels. A stylish knob that mimics a volume control dial turns the lamp on and off, as well as acts as a dimming function. Its small scale allows it to fit onto a bookcase or a desk corner, providing illumination in awkward places and making it perfect for pint size home offices. With a base made from powder lacquered aluminium, the lamp comes in black, grey, white and red.
