As Hong Kong’s local property market remains one of the most unaffordable in the world, most end-users and tenants are looking at cheaper purchases or rents at the expense of size, location and even quality of life.
Much of the current new home supply across Hong Kong is in the small-sized flat class, with those in New Territories locations such as Yuen Long sold at comparatively low starting prices. For those who work in the city centre, a well-connected traffic network where they live is certainly an added bonus. But good transport alone doesn’t make for an ideal neighbourhood. With myriad regeneration projects underway, Yuen Long is set to raise its district profile with a bit of everything to promote a balanced life.
Leisure and Entertainment
Yuen Long has one of the few remaining large tracts of unspoilt land in any of the city’s districts. Nam Sang Wai, Ha Pak Nai and Lau Fau Shan are three popular natural places in the area, which are popular with photographers and famous for sunset watching and seafood dining respectively.
Those who love this natural part of Yuen Long are probably keen to see the variety of birds in Hong Kong. The Aviary Pagoda in Yuen Long Park is the best place to go. Designed in a Chinese architectural style, the seven-storey pagoda houses more than 100 birds of over 30 species. Not so far away, the Hong Kong Wetland Park in Tin Shui Wai shows off the diversity of the Hong Kong’s wetland ecosystem and its creatures.
Red Leaves in Tai Tong
In December every year, Tai Tong, located on the outskirts of Yuen Long, attracts hundreds of visitors for the unique red leaves scattering around Tai Lam Country Park. The perfect mix of colours accentuates the picturesque landscape and draws swarms of people to soak in its idyllic charm.
How to get there:
Get on the train to Long Ping West Rail Station. Take Bus K66 at Long Ping Bus Terminus and get off at Tai Tong Shan Road. Walk along Tai Tong Shan Road that leads uphill to Tai Tong Nature Trail and Yuen Tsuen Ancient Trail.
The growing population in Yuen Long prompted an upgrade to its inadequate infrastructure to meet the demands of daily living. The recently opened YOHO MALL is one of the answers to its rising crowds. With ample retail space — as much as 1.1 million square feet — 80 percent of the mall’s stores target fashion and catering brands and boutiques. Green spaces and art are also major components of the mall’s concept, which guarantees an enjoyable shopping experience.
New Flats on Offer
Following recent residential developments in Yuen Long (The Woodside, Park Signature, Riva, The Reach and Domus) the latest to join the league is YUCCIE SQUARE. Developed by Cheung Kong Property, it offers 1,129 units, mainly in two- and three-bedroom configurations. Most of the flats take in commanding views, as the tower is the highest structure in the vicinity.
