Since 2001, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department of Hong Kong has been organizing events and activities to celebrate International Museum Day (18 May), in hope to raise public awareness of the role that museums play in society.

Coming to the 15th edition, International Museum Day Hong Kong will take place during 14 to 15 May (Sat & Sun). With ‘Museums and Cultural Landscapes’ as the main theme, this year’s celebration sees the participation of over 40 museums, including Hong Kong Heritage Museum, Oi!, Lei Cheng Uk Han Tomb Museum and Fireboat Alexander Grantham Exhibition Gallery etc.

During the 2-day event, visitors will receive free admission to most venues. Below are some of the events and workshops that museums will host.

Hong Kong Heritage Museum: “Getting to Know Claude Monet, the Master Impressionist Painter” – Little Drawing Workshop, ‘Monet and Impressionism’ Seminar, The Joy of Country Cooking

Conservation Office: Chinese painting framing workshop

Museum of Ethnology: Usually accepting group reservation only , the museum is open to public with free guided tours, prize quizzes, and ratten and bamboo drum workshops

Jao Tsung-I Academy: ‘Hong Kong: A Century of Evolution’ Photography Exhibition
