The latest state-of-the-art innovations of home theatre systems | Text : Christy Lam |

Today’s home audio and visual systems have evolved dramatically. In the 1950s, film projectors were used to play black-and-white movies. Considering its weak functions, multi-national companies explored the possibilities of technology-enhanced consumer electronics. Three decades later, the multi-channel audio system and VHS players were introduced.

Improvements didn’t stop there. In the mid-1990s, the LaserDisc became a popular feature in every household. Then when DVDs came out, the development of DVD players and surround sound speakers advanced home theatre systems. It was considered a luxury item but today this has become a common necessity. So if you’re planning to buy a new one, here’s a look at our list of the latest technology.

Samsung
Samsung’s HT-BD1255 Blu-ray Home Theatre System has received the 2009 CES Award. A nice piece of equipment, it employs the new Blu-ray technology, a wireless networking and Anynet+ technology. And users need not worry. It has only a single remote control for all the operations.

Sony
Forget those twisted wires and go for Sony’s wireless Blu-ray disc home theatre system series, BDV-E800. Their latest innovation features advanced audio codes including Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD High Resolution Audio, Dolby Digital Plus and DTS-HD Master Audio. It provides an exclusive developed algorithm that promises to deliver an amazing 7.1 channel surround sound. Moreover, the ‘bonus view’ function mode enables users to see a picture within a picture. It is no wonder that over the last holidays, over 100,000 units were sold like hot pancakes on Amazon.
On the other hand, Sony’s RHT-G950, an expensive TV stand, also offers superb audio quality with 5.1 channel speakers. It has a ‘digital media port’ which enables users to connect to a Walkman, PC, phone or iPod.

Meanwhile, if you want to entertain your family and friends at home, Samsung’s other models - the 5.1 Channel HT-Z320 and HT-Z220 - are good choices. Equipped with a karaoke function, wall-mountable speakers and touch sensor button design, these two models allow you to enjoy singing.

All these three models use bio kelp technology in which a high density of fibres creates clear audio sound by widening the mid and high range frequencies. Advanced Interference-Free Design separates the PCB power and PCB processor, minimizing audio and video interference.

Panasonic
Panasonic’s SC-ZT1 wireless home theatre system allows users to install speakers anywhere. The 7.1 channel system, with two ultra slim pole speakers, is suitable for small and stylish homes. It features four 24mm tweeters and has less sound reflections to generate sounds evenly from the top to the bottom of each pole. A long-stroke woofer can generate powerful and deep bass sounds. Says Ivan Fung, manager of audio visual multimedia division of Shun Hing Electronic Trading Co., Ltd: “Users do not need to hide the cables anymore. The wireless function is a perfect match with Panasonic’s VIERA TV.”

LG
While the visual element is vital to a movie’s appeal, sound is also essential. And to achieve a theatre quality audio, you need more than just simply speakers. LG’s HB954SP
Blu-ray home theatre system features a complete surround-sound system and offers a fantastic sound quality. It has clear voice functions and advanced psychoacoustic bass enhancement technology that generates powerful bass sound and improves the clarity of voice. Moreover, its cinema mode creates a surround effect and promotes sound image elevation. This way, users can listen to a crisp movie sound.
