Lighting it up in style
Baker Furniture brings Pagani lighting to retail | Text : Elizabeth Kerr |
Anyone who has ever tried to decorate a living room knows how difficult finding just the right way to light it can be. To that end, American fine interiors manufacturer Baker (a subsidiary of kitchen and bath outfitter Kohler Co.) has just partnered up with designers Stéphane and Frouwkje Pagani, renowned for their PaganiStudio private label lighting, for The Pagani Collection.
For years, the New York-based atelier has been creating hand-made lighting fixtures that emphasise classical materials and contemporary style. Baker and its showrooms, known best for its quality of craftsmanship as well as its aesthetics, will be featuring the new Pagani Collection, the first commercial venture for the Paganis.
The exclusive handmade line will include seven table lamps, three floor lamps, four chandeliers and three sconces. Using industry newsMurano glass that dates back to the Renaissance, French plaster, one of the world’s oldest valued materials, artistic cast bronze and sculpted marble and finished with Italian silk shades where applicable, the series hinges on the innate beauty and sensuality of nature.
As elegant as the fixtures may be, function has not been sacrificed for form, and each piece accepts standard 40-60 watt incandescent bulbs that give off a soft, ambient light. As Frouwkje Pagani put it in a statement, “The designs needed to appeal to myriad tastes and capture the attention of clientele who seek out unique objet d’art possessing the rarified air to complete the most stylish interiors. The timeless union of past and present is one of the principles of our design philosophy and one that we actively brought to our commercial collection to reach this larger, sophisticated audience.”
